At Continental Airlines Cargo, we know what it takes to get
your perishable floral shipments to their destinations on time and in excellent
condition. Because we understand the special requirements of shipping fragile, perishable
items like flowers
and nursery stock, your shipments arrive fresh and fast. We know
that reliable,
on-time delivery is the key to keeping our floral shippers happy.
Just follow these packaging and shipping requirements, and leave the rest to us.
Domestic Rates
Continental Airlines Cargo divides the country into six separate zones, plus zones
for Hawaii and Puerto Rico. This allows shippers at every origin their own set
of affordable rates. Determined by the
origin zone and destination zone, shipping rates are priced per 100 pounds, based
on the chargeable weight of the flowers, subject to minimum charges. Our specific
commodity rate, SCR 0651, applies to the following floral products:
- Cut Flowers
- Foliage
- Decorative Greens
- Florist and Nursery Stock
Labeling and Packaging
- Accurate labeling of package contents ensures proper handling. “Perishable”
must appear on every carton along with consignee’s name, address, 24-hour
phone numbers, description of contents, gross weight and carton dimensions.
- Please use indelible ink and waterproof labels to ensure legibility.
- We protect flower shipments for three hours prior to standard tender time
and as long as four hours after notification of arrival at destination.
- Shippers must pack for transit times of 48 hours domestically and 72 hours
internationally, out of refrigeration, as cooling facilities are not available
in all cities.
ClimateSecureSM Service
Attractive to shippers of perishable and temperature-sensitive products especially
flowers, Continental’s ClimateSecure service offers unit load devices with
temperature-control technology. Other benefits include:
- An unbroken cool chain for as long as 72 hours, longer with replenished dry
ice and batteries
- Sealable and lockable containers
- QUICKPAK or Confirmed Must Ride handling, boarding priority and flight-specific
guarantees
- Handling by special service teams in Continental stations for even higher
priority treatment
- Availability of all standard Continental Airlines Cargo services such as Web
tracking
Continental’s ClimateSecure service boasts the latest advancements to preserve
the freshness and value of your floral products.
Payment
You must prepay freight charges by cash or company check unless you have a valid
and approved Continental Airlines Cargo customer account number. We cannot ship
flowers on a collect basis unless you guarantee payment.
Air Waybill
Continental Airlines requires all shippers to furnish a complete air waybill at
time of tender. Please ensure you’ve stated accurately the gross weight
and dimensions of each piece on the air waybill.
